AND MAYBE HE WILL ADD A STORY
THE DIRT ROAD
I remember when the road to copco was dirt. All the way from
Yreka or Montague. I remember when there was a speed trap in Montague
and you had to drive slow. I remember when you had to take Highway
3 from Yreka to Montague becuase Yreka Ager had not been built
yet. I remember when the road was all dirt and almost one lane
all the way to copco. I remeber that my mother drove to fast on
the road and used to tail spin. I remeber the flight suit that
hung in the broken down barn along the road, and the chair that
slowly rotted over the years in the one marsh by the road. I remember
when you could visit the soda springs and not get chased away.
THE COPCO SCHOOL
I REMEMBER WHEN THE COPCO SCHOOL WAS IN THE LITTLE building
that looked like something out of little house on the prarie by
bogus creek. I remember when the copco school moved and they made
the copco school the copco chapel. I remember when the copco school
was full of maggots.
THE COPCO CHAPEL
I remember when the copco chapel was the copco school.
THE TRIP TO MEDFORD
I Remember when the road from copco to henly hornbrook didnt
exist and you had to drive thru hornbrook. I remember when they
finished copco road and hornbrook died. I remember waiting on
the pass on the 5 while they blasted with dinomite (no jj) and
then had to clear the road for the truckers to leave thier 2 liter
bottles of piss at the top. I remeber when they built costco in
medford and gave you a reason to go to oregon.
THE WAY FISHING USED TO BE
I remember when there was no fishing access and you had to
pay the landowners for the right to pass and fish. I remeber catching
unlimited numbers of 2-7 pound trout. I remember when the fishing
access points were put in on the river and the fishing slowly
started to decline every year. I remember the year someone took
guides in and dropped fishermen at every access and you couldn't
catch a damn thing.
THE RAFTERS
I REMEMBER before the rafters came there was less trash on
the trails along the river. I remember befor the rafters the only
person you had to look out for on blind corners on the road to
town was the UPS guy. I remember numerous times almost getting
killed by rafter trucks going way to fast on the road so they
could get there minimum wage bonus. I remember when the copco
store started worshiping the rafters because its the only source
of $$ the store gets.
